The Foster Care Youth Day program will allow children from infancy to 17 years to have access to care and learning in a dual purpose environment.
The Teacher Assistant, will assist the Lead Teacher in caring and educating children.
He/she will guide students towards gaining knowledge and skills in order to become productive community members through lessons in mathematics, science, social studies and social/civic studies, health and overseeing recreation and physical education activities.
He/she will also assist students transitioning back to the public school system.
This position will assist children in adjusting to issues related to their social and academic development.
This position is year round and does not follow typical state school system schedules.

) Create a safe and encouraging learning environment for children ages infant to 17 years of age.
Implement provided curriculum while finding/creating necessary resources for curriculum.
Scaffold learning to meet student’s age and skill level.
Provide daily school routine for children of a variety ages and educational backgrounds.
Assist in implementation of each student’s educational plan, provide initial educational assessment and assess academic progress, oversee all school activities.
Assist Lead Teacher in maintaining records for students’ academic, health and recreational activities.
Participate as a team member and attend meetings with treatment team members to discuss children’s behavior in classroom if necessary.
Attend training provided internally and in the community and apply newly gained knowledge in providing services.
Provide written and verbal communication translation for program clientele and staff.
Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games and field trips.
Document and report according to contractual requirements and in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

Ambulatory in all locations, ability to navigate steps.
Ability to bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
Minimum lift and carry requirement of 25 pounds.

Education: High school diploma (or equivalent), Associates degree or some college credits preferred.
Experience: Working with children in a school or daycare setting.
Specific skills/abilities: Enjoys working as a team, flexible, good natured, firm, must be able to work and enjoy working with children, patient.
Awareness and sensitivity to the service population’s cultural characteristics is required.
Specialized knowledge, licenses, etc: Must have NC or SC drivers license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
