JOB SUMMARY The Senior Accountant/Analyst’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to providing analytical, technical, and support to the Controller; assists in budget planning, development and monitoring operating and capital budgets, while maintaining budget integrity throughout the accounting monitoring process.
This position works closely with the Controller by assisting with maintaining quality control of all key accounting and business functions of the College including general accounting, endowment accounting, grant accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, student accounts, cash management, investment management, payroll, credit card processing and purchasing; and performs related work as assigned.
This position works closely with and reports to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists with budget planning, development and monitoring operating and capital budgets, while maintaining budget integrity throughout the accounting monitoring process.
Assists with maintaining quality control of all key accounting and business functions of the College including general accounting, endowment accounting, grant accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, student accounts, cash management, investment management, payroll, credit card processing and purchasing.
Assists with developing and maintaining a comprehensive chart of accounts and accounting software for the College.
Assists with developing, maintaining, and monitoring the annual operating and capital budgets.
Assists with managing the fiscal year-end close process and the annual financial and compliance audit of the College.
Assists in developing, maintaining, and administering fiscal plans, policies, and procedures to remain compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and industry best practices.
Directs financial reporting to meet all regulatory requirements.
Gathers and develops the information necessary for the development of projections of revenue and expense and financial reporting.
Assists with the development of capital resources and financing plans needed to support the College’s capital maintenance and improvements program.
Develops and maintains financial reports by applying accounting principles to ensure all financial transactions are recorded properly.
Assists in performing financial functions by analyzing general ledger account activity to ensure accuracy, adequacy, and timeliness of monthly accounting reconciliations for financial and management reporting.
Participates on various committees and in workgroups that serve to benefit the mission of the College and the Business Office.
Fosters positive relationships with all external and internal constituencies served by the College.
Assists management with special projects and reports as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or closely related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Five (5) years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, banking or finance preferably within a higher education environment.
Preference may be given to applicants who possess and maintain CPA certification.
Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, utilizing Outlook, Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams, including spreadsheet design, financial modeling and financial analysis, or related analytical software skills necessary to create and maintain reports and logs; strong Excel spreadsheet skills and experience with Jenzabar is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
Ability to create financial statements; strong reporting background.
Ability to assist and manage general ledger functions, the fiscal year-end close process, and the annual financial and compliance audit of the College.
Ability to analyze data and write clear and concise financial narratives and reports.
Knowledge of enterprise-wide central accounting and reporting software systems; strong computer skills.
Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and processes.
Knowledge of leadership and techniques for working with groups and fostering effective team interaction to ensure teamwork is conducted smoothly.
Knowledge of modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions, projects, and task coordination.
Ability to organize, plan, oversee, manage and prioritize work.
Ability to communicate financial information effectively to all internal and external constituents both orally and in writing.
Ability to lead by example, solve problems, take initiative to provide services, and develop strong customer relationships.
Ability to interpret and appropriately apply accounting principles and regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.
The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, hearing, mental acuity, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
